Virginia Volunteer Opportunities

We have many exciting volunteer opportunities with varying levels of time commitment.  Most activities can be done from home according to your own schedule.  Many involve attendance at quarterly volunteer meetings, which is a great way to meet others who have gone through or are going through infertility.  If you are interested in volunteering or would simply like more information, please contact Cindy Peterson, Volunteer Coordinator, at volunteer@midatlantic.resolve.org.  We appreciate any time you have to give. Your help will allow RESOLVE to continue providing valuable services to you and others in the infertility community.  Come join our committed and fun group of volunteers!

We are looking for help in the following areas:

Educational Programs Team

  •  Work as a team to coordinate all aspects of the educational activities of the region/local area.  There are generally 4-6 programs per year.
  • Select appropriate educational programs.  Ensure that all family building options are adequately represented by local educational programming (i.e., treatment, adoption, collaborative reproduction, living without parenting, financing, family relations/mental health)
  • Identify and procure appropriate speakers/facilitators for educational programs.  Develop and maintain relationships with potential speakers/facilitators
  • Identify and procure appropriate space for educational programs
  • Work with Regional Advisory Council Chair, Educational Coordinators and any other Education team members to plan program dates.
  • Solicit volunteers for educational programming committee and/or day-of-event support.
  • Work with Regional and National volunteers and staff to market educational programs and events, ensuring inclusion of event on the website, in eBlasts, and on social media sites.
  • Support annual conference-planning efforts
  • Reports to Regional Advisory Council Chair.  Collaborate with Educational Programs Team.

Time Commitment

  • 6-8 hours per month planning and marketing upcoming events.  Months with no events require less time commitment.
  • Attend Regional Advisory Council Meetings four times per year, plus telephone conferences.

Peer-led Support Group Host - CRITICAL NEED

  • Moderate a regularly scheduled meeting to discuss and share infertility or adoption related issues.
  • Arrange for occasional guest speakers as group demonstrates interest.
  • Ensure that group follows RESOLVE policies and procedures including remaining non-biased and not promoting any particular methods or professionals.
  • Promote group meetings via monthly emails to group and prospective members list.  and report their group meetings.
  • Support regional/local programs and events by volunteering at events, promoting to group members and soliciting volunteers from group.
  • Reports to Support Services Coordinator (volunteer)

Time Commitment:

  • New hosts are required to interview with the Support Services Coordinator and to complete on-line training before beginning a group.
  • 2-4 hours per month hosting meetings, communicating with current and potential group participants, and reporting status of group/attendance to Support Services Coordinator
  • Volunteer for other local events when possible.
  • Attend annual support group hosts meeting and occasional continuing education teleseminars.

Professional Relations Team

Help us re-invigorating our efforts in Professional Relations.  We’d like to create a team of people who can brainstorm ideas about how best to keep in touch with Family Building Professionals in our region.  We are hoping to reach out to professionals (REs, nurses, mental health, etc) to make sure they have information about RESOLVE available to clients, to work with them on writing articles or speaking at events, to find out if RESOLVE can speak at their events, and ask them to include information about our events in their patient communication, among other initiatives.  Team would also organize a Professional Regional Advisory Council Dinner and Focus Group to learn from professionals how we may best work with them. Time Commitment:

  • 4-6 hours per month.
  • Attend Regional Advisory Council Meetings four times per year, plus telephone conferences.
