What does the future hold for people with infertility?

Did you hear the news? Surgeons at the Cleveland Clinic believe they are very close to being able to transfer a uterus into a woman who lacks one, allowing her to become pregnant. According to the New York Times, an estimated 50,000 women in the U.S. do not have a uterus, and presumably some of those 50,000 want to have a child.
When you work in this field, medical news such as this gets your attention and inspires you to dream…to dream of a day when a woman who does not have a uterus has the ability to still become pregnant; to dream of a day when insurance covers these amazing medical advances; to dream of a day when insurance covers everyone who needs access to infertility medical treatments; and to dream of a day when this disease is understood by the public. How about a future where everyone who needs support finds it free and in their local community?
I know what you are thinking: “Dream on Barb!” “How naïve, Barb!” and I am sure a few of you are even thinking “What’s Barb smokin’ today?”
Well, from my perspective, I do see a bright future for people with infertility. I’ve been around long enough to be able to say I have seen real progress. I have seen advocates change the minds of hardened legislators, I have seen brave women and men speak out and share their story, I have seen the media focus on factual stories that have educated the public, and I have seen people raise their voice and gain insurance coverage from their employer.
I have seen real change happen.
But…and here’s the “but”: that change only happened because people had a community, and that community is RESOLVE. OK, I can’t claim that RESOLVE is solely responsible for all the change that has happened, but I’d like to think we wouldn’t be where we are today if it wasn’t for RESOLVE. And RESOLVE is you. Yes, you reading this right now. RESOLVE is the healthcare professional. RESOLVE is the pharmacist. RESOLVE is the adoption attorney. RESOLVE is all of us. We are RESOLVE.
Let’s all come together and ensure that the future I am dreaming about becomes a reality for the next person struggling to build their family. Dream big with me. Join with RESOLVE. And together we can make great things happen.
