Raising Your Voice…it actually works!

Thank you! Thank you to those who came to RESOLVE’s Advocacy Day, to those who wrote letters to Congress, to those who called Congress this week, and to those who supported the Advocates.

We had a beautiful day in Washington, D.C. on April 25.  We started with a training session in the morning that included motivational messages from RESOLVE Board Chair Lee Rubin Collins, Advocacy Day Chair Risa Levine, Advocacy Day sponsor EMD Serono (Craig Millian spoke), and from the Keynote speaker, former Senator Blanche Lincoln. While these remarks really set the stage for the day, the biggest highlight for me was seeing the passionate advocates march off to their meetings, walk the halls of Congress, and speak on behalf of the 7.3 million Americans with infertility.

But don’t take my word for it…read some the impressions from three advocates on their experience attending RESOLVE’s Advocacy Day.

My first Advocacy Day with RESOLVE showed me exactly how ready, willing, and able the infertility community is to make our voices heard. I was overwhelmingly impressed with the women and men who stepped up to embrace this commitment to advocate for legislation providing access to family building options. Walking the halls with many other first-timers, I realized, we are doing this. We are knowledgeable. We are brave and bold. We are advocates. We are making a difference.” Jennifer, Brooklyn, New York

“Advocacy Day was an amazingly empowering experience and I was so proud and happy to share it with my husband beside me.   If you have never done anything like this, I can’t stress to you enough how important it is.  You do have a voice, no matter how much apathetic people will tell you that you don’t.  Congressional representatives will listen to you. And, when they start to get enough visits, phone calls and letters — they will take notice of the issue!   It feels good to actually do something about the issues that you care about.  And, for me, this is a way to take back some of the power that infertility has stolen from me.”  Whitney, Roanoke, Virginia

I had flown for the first time, to Washington D.C. to attend Advocacy Day with RESOLVE. I had a mission, and I was focused on that mission. I was the only one representing Florida, which was overwhelming, however RESOLVE’s staff supported me the entire time, and they gave me confidence I never knew I had. To be in Washington D.C. in the Senate and House, was powerful, to tell my congressman about the one thing that means more to me than anything was an honor, and I am proud to make a difference, I am proud to have had this opportunity to be heard, about a disease no one asked for.”   Amanda, Palm Coast Florida

Keep in touch with RESOLVE as we continue to work together to pass the Family Act and save the Adoption Tax credit.  If you did not get a chance to send a letter of support or call Congress this week, you can still do it! Here is the letter to send and click here to get the details on how to make your callsWe must keep the momentum going!
