Physicians and professionals in the infertility field have an important role to play in supporting federal legislation. Members of Congress want to hear from experts and want to be sure that you support this bill. We need you to share your experience in dealing with patients who did not have the funds to pursue treatment. If you are a physician in the infertility field and want to see greater access to IVF care for patients, please show your support for this bill.

Set up a time to meet with your elected officials and their staff.

It is best to start with sending a letter to the office, then follow-up up with a phone call to the office. Ideally, to really make an impact you need to meet with your Senators and Representative or their staff. Most likely you will meet with someone on the staff, but that is fine as the staff are the eyes and ears for their boss on all issues! The staff will know the issues, know the status of bills, and can make things happen in the office. Plus they can tell you any information on the bill’s progress in the appropriate committee. During your meeting tell your legislator what you do, how many staff you employ, how many patients you treat each year, and how lack of insurance coverage or access to funds can prevent many patients from getting the care they need, and how the Family Act will help lessen the financial burden on patients. You can meet with your elected officials in their Washington, D.C. offices or in their local state office.
