Your elected officials are just like you: real people doing their job. However, they need to talk to and hear from their constituents so they know what actions they need to take to support their District or state and their constituents. Hundreds of bills are introduced each year and there is no way for them to know about each bill. By sending a letter, making a phone call, and meeting with your Member and their staff, you are exercising your right to convey your opinion to your Senators and Representative.
It is best to start with sending a letter to the office, then follow-up up with a phone call to the office. Ideally, to really make an impact you need to meet with your Senators and Representative or their staff. Don’t be disappointed if you make an appointment and a staff person is who you are meeting with. The staff know the issues, know the status of bills, and can make things happen in the office. Plus they can tell you any information on the bill’s progress in the appropriate committee. During your meeting simply speak from the heart; tell them why this bill matters to you personally, and ask for their support of S 965.
You may find opportunities to talk to your hometown newspaper, a local TV or radio station, or a freelance writer looking for a special interest story. The best strategy is to reach out to RESOLVE and our media team before you are interviewed for the latest information. We can help coach you and help you develop your talking points. It is extremely important for the infertility community, both patients and professionals, to speak out about infertility and S 965. One interview can go a long way in garnering support. Contact info@resolve.org and let us know if the media has reached out to you or if you want RESOLVE to reach out to your local media.
