RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association And FIRST RESPONSE Release New Findings

RESOLVE: THE NATIONAL INFERTILITY ASSOCIATION AND FIRST RESPONSE RELEASE NEW FINDINGS THAT ASSESS WOMEN’S UNDERSTANDING OF FERTILITY

Survey Provides Results on Women’s Knowledge of Fertility Potential

(McLean, VA, April 9, 2009) — As the leading voice for women and men facing infertility, RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association (RESOLVE) in collaboration with Church & Dwight, Co., makers of First Response® products, surveyed RESOLVE members on knowledge of their own fertility potential and treatment options.  In a separate compatible survey, First Response® asked women of child-bearing age from the general population about their fertility, pregnancy potential and pregnancy planning views.

The results of both surveys will help RESOLVE and First Response® educate women and men on the need for early infertility detection and intervention for those trying to conceive. They found:

  • When it comes to planning key aspects of life, planning for future pregnancy falls to the bottom of the list of priorities for women of child-bearing age.
  • The majority of child-bearing aged women (75%) believe it is easy for a woman to become pregnant.
  • Nearly two-thirds (65%) of RESOLVE constituents thought they could get pregnant without any problem when they first started trying.
  • Three in four women of child-bearing age do not know what follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) is and how it can affect a woman’s ability to get pregnant.
  • Similarly, 82% of RESOLVE constituents had no idea what FSH was and how it affected their ability to get pregnant when they, themselves, first tried to get pregnant.
  • Majority (86%) of RESOLVE constituents would have taken charge faster and sought the care of a medical professional sooner if they had known more about their fertility potential before they started to try to conceive.

“The results from these surveys will assist those in the infertility community to educate women and men on ways to resolve their infertility,” said Barbara Collura, RESOLVE’s Executive Director. “I look forward to working closely with First Response to assist women and men in their family building journey.”

“Often times women take for granted that they’ll be able to get pregnant, and have little knowledge of their fertility potential,” said Stacey Feldman, Vice President of Marketing for the First Response® brand. “Through our ongoing work with RESOLVE we’re pleased to be able to educate and provide women with information early to help empower them to take charge of their fertility sooner so they can plan for their future.”
