Premier Infertility Association Receives Funding To Develop Embryo Donation Educational Materials And Communications Campaign.

RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association Provides Needed Information on All Family Building Options

(McLean, VA, October 16, 2009)—Embryo donation has reached national significance over the last several months in the media. Many pundits are debating the complex issues surrounding infertility and specifically embryo donation. To make sure those seeking information on all family building options have the answers they need, RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association (RESOLVE) will use recently awarded grant money to assist the 7.3 million Americans fighting the disease of infertility in understanding embryo donation.

RESOLVE received a grant from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) (EEAPA091012) to develop a series of educational modules to train the entire medical team at fertility clinics on embryo donation.

The goal of this program is to ensure that medical professionals can effectively inform and support their patients who could be potential embryo donors. RESOLVE will assess professionals’ knowledge, clinic practices and communication strategies in promoting embryo donation to their patients; develop online educational programs for professionals with the opportunity to receive continuing education credit; promote learning opportunities through new and existing communication channels; and develop social networking opportunities for the target population to share strategies and concerns. RESOLVE will continue its rich history of providing education to patients by providing that same unbiased and objective information to clinic personnel.

“RESOLVE is pleased to receive this generous grant from the Department of Health and Human Services,” said Barbara Collura, Executive Director of RESOLVE. “RESOLVE is proud to continue its 35-year tradition of supporting women and men fighting the disease of infertility through resources for all family building options, including embryo donation education.”

In addition, HHS Office of Population Affairs provided RESOLVE with a funding extension (Grant EAAPA081008) to continue its integrated communications campaign, “Destination Family”, to demystify the process of embryo donation. This program will reach out to the extended network of family, friends and community who support individuals and couples in their decision making process. Working with Spectrum, a full service communications agency specializing in science and health, RESOLVE will continue to promote the issue of embryo donation through social media channels, radio and print PSA campaigns and RESOLVE’s “Destination Family” micro-site (www.resolve.org/embryodonation).

Since 2002, RESOLVE has received over $1,500,000 from HHS for educational programming and public awareness projects on embryo donation.

Founded in 1974, RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association, headquartered in McLean, VA, is the oldest and largest consumer-based, nonprofit group that provides education, advocacy and compassionate support for those struggling with infertility in the United States. Each year, RESOLVE and its nationwide network of affiliates and chapters handle more than 1.5 million contacts from people seeking information and help.  For more information, visit the RESOLVE website at www.resolve.org.
